NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND
Newport Rhode Island has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. This gorgeous New England coastal town is a timeless classic with charm and beauty spread throughout every inch of the island. Less than 200 miles from NYC, it makes for the perfect weekend escape.
The Castle Hill Inn, home to Grace Kelly during the summer of 1956, is a timeless Newport icon. Live jazz music on Sundays lands this alfresco gem a top spot on our #brunchgoals list. After brunch keep the bubbly flowing as you relax on Adirondack chairs, spread across the rolling lawn, looking out onto the Narragansett Bay.
While Southern-style BBQ may not be what you expect when visiting this New England town, we’re certainly not complaining. Stop by Smoke House and pick from a menu full of bold, hot flavors. Their list of original specialty cocktails is just as satisfying and exactly what you'll need to cool things down. Holding true to their motto slow cooked goodness, Smoke House is comfort food at its most mouth-watering finest.
No trip to Newport is complete without taking a stroll through the famous Cliff Walk. Nestled along the Eastern shoreline, this walking trail carves out a long stretch of breathtaking scenic views. As you walk along the water you’ll come across another Newport staple – the Mansions on Bellevue Avenue. Built over 250 years ago, these historic properties are known for their inspiring architecture, art, interior design and landscapes - that stretch over 88 acres of gardens and parks.
SHELTER ISLAND, NEW YORK
Shelter Island is a private island situated right in between Long Island’s North and South fork and is just a short ferry ride from either. The island is completely secluded and full of natural, scenic beauty. The ultimate peaceful getaway, it's one of our go-to weekend escapes.
This former boatyard has been transformed into the SALT Waterfront Bar & Grill. Enjoy fresh seafood sitting outside, under the adorable blue awning looking out onto the harbor. Aside from the grill itself, you'll also find the best places to enjoy a cold drink. Grab some beers on tap at The Shipwreck Bar – a renovated vintage 35-foot schooner - or stop by The Wine Dock Tasting room to sip local wines from Long Island’s wine country.
Take a hike through the Mashomack Preserve, one of the East End's largest and most magnificent nature preserves. Wander along 10 miles of coastline taking in the beautiful scenery - interlacing tidal creeks, woodlands, fields and wildlife. Mashomack comprises one third of Shelter Island and is a sight that cannot be missed.
Sunset Beach is home to Long Island’s best sunset view. This chic-styled restaurant will immediately have you thinking you've found paradise. Every inch of this beach-side restaurant is covered with vibrant and colorful décor, and we can't get enough of the view from the bar upstairs. It’s of course worth noting their extensive list of rosé, whether you’re in the mood for rosé sangria, frosé, or just a classic bottle - it's the perfect place to #roséallday.
